Successful transfer restructuring secures traditional Ortrander Eisenhütte foundry and creates new growth prospects

starkpartners successfully arranged and supported the demanding investor process of Ortrander Eisenhütte. This secures both the production site in Ortrand and around 200 jobs in the long term. The insolvency administrator Attorney Olaf Seidel from the law firm AndresPartner led the proceedings with the clear goal of a sustainable continuation solution. He was legally supported by Attorney Fabian Teschler.

The transaction, led by Dr. Johannes Marcel Offergeld, with the support of Julia Päßler, marks the successful conclusion of an almost year-long insolvency and restructuring process and represents a positive signal for the entire foundry and metal industry, which is currently characterized by significant structural and economic challenges.

Structured investor solution with international industrial partner

The core of the transaction is the takeover of the operative business by the Kutluk Group. Machines, plants and the current assets of Ortrander Eisenhütte are transferred to a newly founded company, which will operate under the name Ortrander Gusstechnik GmbH in the future. The legal and economic transfer is scheduled for January 1, 2026.

Strong management and dedicated workforce as success factors

The successful transfer restructuring took place in an extremely challenging market environment. A key success factor of the restructuring process was the high level of commitment and loyalty of the workforce. Throughout the insolvency proceedings, it was possible to maintain stable operations and demonstrate the site’s performance.

The previous managing directors Jens van Haß and Sven Piesker made a decisive contribution. Through their continuous commitment, their operative management and their active support of the investor process, they made a significant contribution to guiding the company safely through the restructuring phase and enabling a viable future solution.

New management with a clear growth agenda

The management of the new Ortrander Gusstechnik GmbH is taken over by Sunay Memet Aga. The goal is to further expand the technical and organizational strengths of the site together with the workforce and to position the company successfully in the market in the long term. As part of the transaction, the Kutluk Group was advised, among others, by the management consultancy Gemba Partner as well as Dr. Georg Heidemann and Melina Jenkner, from the law firm Heidemann & Küthe, advised. In addition, the real estate experts Andreas Böker and Carsten Engmann were involved in the process, especially with regard to site-related issues.

About Ortrander Eisenhütte GmbH

Ortrander Eisenhütte GmbH filed an application to open insolvency proceedings at the Cottbus District Court on December 18, 2024. Attorney Olaf Seidel was initially appointed as provisional and later as regular insolvency administrator. The company had already successfully completed insolvency proceedings between 2019 and 2021.

The Ortrand site looks back on a long industrial tradition: Founded in 1887, the Eisenhütte today presents itself as a modern foundry for machine-molded iron castings with materials made of gray, vermicular and spheroidal graphite iron.

Our conclusion

The successful transfer restructuring of Ortrander Eisenhütte shows that sustainable solutions are possible even in a difficult industrial environment – provided that restructuring expertise, professional M&A know-how, committed corporate management and a reliable industrial investor interlock. The preservation of the Ortrand site and the creation of new perspectives thus mark not only a successful transaction completion, but also a strong signal for the industrial SME sector.
